Our hummus has been a crowd favourite since we opened Gemmayze St in 2016. It won best dish in Denizen Magazine’s Hospo Heroes in 2021.
Our hummus is handmade in small batches by head chef and owner-operator Samir Allen in-between running the award-winning Karangahape Rd restaurant. It takes three days to create from scratch and is based on his family’s beloved recipe.
Samir remembers his jiddi (grandfather) used to say ‘You should bottle that’ every time the hummus was served at the dinner table. “So we finally have,” says Samir.
Thick and creamy with a rich layer of infused paprika oil, Samir says the hummus satisfies any craving. “It goes with everything: cheeseboards, roast or barbecued meat, all kinds of veggie dishes and salads or served simply with bread or crackers. It’s perfect for big parties or intimate family meals.”
